As this site has grown, I’ve had a lot of people ask me what I use in terms of holistic wellness. Products that have truly helped me, that I have loved and have been proven through my own experience to raise my vibrations.
Mindfulness & Calming:
Finding a good natural, herbal supplement for calming my mind, either for meditation or for mindfulness in my daily life has really helped me during my busy days. I’m prone to anxiety (why I created this site) and anger so I searched specifically for a supplement that could offer everything that I studied for stress and anxiety during my certification to become a nutritionist. What I found was the Inner Peace Blend by Nutrition Blends. This supplement reduces stress, improves mood, calms the nervous system and improves sleep. 100%.
An explanation from their site about this supplement’s ingredients—these are the nutrients that were so important to me, that I learned about during my certification and couldn’t wait to get my hands on, and that this supplement contains:
GABA: Gamma-Amino Butyric acid (GABA) is an amino acid which acts as a neurotransmitter in the central nervous system. It is known to promote calmness.
Ashwaghanda: an “adaptogen” that helps the body cope with daily stress, as well as improving thinking ability, & helps prevent the effects of ageing.
Magnolia: assists with weight loss, eases digestion, supports normal mood function and overall wellbeing.
Hops: calming and promote sleep with no unwanted next day side effects.
L-Theanine: contains an important amino acid that reduces stress and promotes calmness.
Passion Flower: supports normal mood function; promotes calmness.
Panax Ginseng: as an adaptogen it supports normal mood function, reduces fatigue and boosts the immune system.
Lemon-Balm: a member of the mint family, is considered a calming herb. It reduces stress, promotes sleep & supports normal digestion.
Skullcap: used to support normal mood function as well as promoting sleep and overall wellbeing.
Rhodiola: increases energy, stamina, strength and mental capacity.
Chamomile: has many uses including supporting normal digestion, reducing stress and promoting sleep.
Valerian root: has been used for centuries to promote sleep and encourage calmness.
Hawthorne berry: is best known for its positive effect on heart health but it also used to improve overall health.
Bacopa: herb that has been used traditionally to enhance memory, learning and concentration.
St. John’s Wort: This popular herb is often used to support normal mood function.
Oat straw: has been used to support brain health since the Middle Ages, increase energy, support normal mood and improve physical performance.
Mucuna Puriens: supports a healthy central & peripheral nervous system, supports the body’s ability to handle stress, improves energy & endurance as well as supporting brain function.
5-hydroxytryptophan: is an amino acid that is the active intermediate between L-Tryptophan and serotonin. Serotonin supports sleep, mood, appetite, temperature balance, and pain sensations.
On this site, I offer short, guided meditations that address specific issues and themes. I use a lot of different techniques from breath work to visualization and mudra. Though I know the benefit of guided meditations, there is a lot to be said for meditating without guidance, and instead either meditating in silence or with music/sound. Sounds can be ultra healing and helpful when it comes to letting the mind relax into the right state for meditation. Just like a guided meditation, they can be a catalyst for a clear and beautiful practice.
I wanted to find the perfect type of sound or music, not only for my yoga classes, but for my own personal meditations. I found two wonderful sources:
Isochronic Tones & Binaural Beats: You can get a specific set of tones for any outcome you want to see in your meditation, just like my guided meditations bring you to a certain benefit. These mp3 tracks provide brainwave entrainment in order to bring about cognitive, physical and emotional benefits. These audios reset your brainwave frequency to bring about any number of specific, healing outcomes. I’m a light sleeper so their sleep audios really helped me by adjusting my brainwaves to set up for some delta wave sleep.
Paleo Mind: So along those same brainwaves, these beautiful sounds change the way your brain communicates with the rest of your body. They actually change the way you think and feel, and with the help of this music, raise your vibration. We can affect the way the nervous system communicates. And therefore, change the whole game of how we are in the world. Try Paleo Mind if you’re not sure about Isochronic Tones above. These tracks are also geared toward specific benefits like Chakra Healing, Pure Positivity, Deep Sleep, Energy Booster and Total Focus. Love them.
Both of the options for brainwave treatment above are instant downloads. So if you’re sick of my voice, then try one of these awesome ways to get the perfect sound for your meditations.
MEditation & Yoga:
Crystals and gems are highly interactive with their environments. They absorb, store and emit energy and information. Because of their stable makeup, they can store all kinds of information and emit it out into the world. They react to the input of someone's energy and information (like a mantra or intention). Likewise, they emit a certain vibration frequency that could alter the energy field (physical, mental, emotional, spiritual) of the person or other energy form in their immediate environment.
This obviously leads to energetic change. Healing, uplifting, cleansing, empowering, inspiring, energizing, magnifying, balancing, restoring. Depending on the crystal with its specific benefits and your own intention, a crystal could be your catalyst. Powerful tools for meditation and yoga. I get my crystals from a great source: Click here to shop Sage Goddess Collectible Crystals.
Yoga mat and accessories? This question comes up a lot from my students. When it comes to mats, props, and other little needs for meditation and yoga, my favorite brand for mats and accessories has always been Manduka. Durable, comfortable, well-made. I love Manduka.
This is an easy question for me to answer! Yoga Outlet has all the stuff. A lot of brands, a lot of discounts, plenty of sales, great customer service. I’ve never had a problem with them, and they have the biggest selection. I wear most of the stuff I have bought from Yoga Outlet every day.
There are a few supplements I have really liked and that have actually given me results in my life:
Seeking Health was founded by Dr Ben Lynch who is a world–leading expert in nutrigenomics and epigenetics, and founder of this supplement company. You can get targeted support for most anything from pregnancy to Omega-3 fish oil supplements to sleeping aid supplements. This is what I love about them. Physician-formulated (by a physician who cares about how your nutrients affect your genes and life) to specifically target exactly what you need. From a look at his inventory, it’s clear these supplements were smartly, scientifically produced. This company is a holistic nutritionist’s heaven, with supplements focusing on supporting fundamental pathways in the body. Genius.
You might have heard of Dr. Axe. I’ve been following him for some time now, and I use several supplements from his Ancient Nutrition brand. I like, in particular, their wide selection of collagen supplements. You can choose any condition or issue where you might need supplements or extra support. You can choose what you want to focus on like aging, gut support, or metabolism. I like his essential oils too.
Then there’s those of us who want to detox and know the power of bone broth on metabolism. Dr. Axe above has a good selection of bone broth/protein, but if you’re looking to buy in bulk with ongoing efforts toward detoxification, you should look at Au Bon Broth.
Bone broth is good for:
boosting metabolism and detoxification
supports and boosts the immune system
healthy, glowing skin
maintaining the health of the gut
*When it comes to inflammation, the best thing I’ve tried so far, in terms of supplements, is PuraTHRIVE’s Liposomal Turmeric with Fulvic Acid. I found PuraTHRIVE Liposomal Turmeric when I was walking around New Orleans and found a store selling B12 shots, alkalized water, etc. I found out two things about why my curcumin supplements weren’t working:
Isolated curcumin without all the other properties of turmeric does not work. You need turmeric, and you need it to be pure.
I learned that fulvic acid helps nutrients to be absorbed, aids in detox, supports the brain and hydration of cells. Fulvic acid, in short, makes biochemical reactions happen faster and more efficiently. This is because water passes into cells through a more permeable cell membrane. The permeability of the cell membrane means easier detox of the cells too.
Take this liposomal turmeric with a little bit of freshly ground black pepper. Be sure to shake the bottle well beforehand. Give yourself about 8 pumps under the tongue and hold there for about 30 seconds. I would sprinkle the black pepper under the tongue after or before the turmeric. Don’t try to mix it all up, just pump.
Two of the best things I recommend for this is meditation and your own yoga practice. Get some crystals from Sage Goddess in order to heighten both your meditation and your yoga practice, which are both very important for your teaching.
Something that has helped my teaching is a mental performance supplement called Ciltep. Mixed with a little bit of cacao or coffee (not too much caffeine), this supplement produces some of my best classes. You need to take 2 or 3 on an empty stomach first thing in the morning. Then you can eat a little bit, a little while after. This is a natural nootropic that uses vitamin B6, artichoke extract, Acetyl-L-Carnitine, L-Phenylalanine, and another root extract. I have loved this supplement. It keeps me on track, knowing right from left, keeping my sequence sorted out and clear. That cognition power extends to my students who are energized by my clear thinking and well-spoken class.
