Turn It All Around: 13-Minute Meditation for Moments of Negativity

This could also be called the bad day meditation.

Because what a horrible day. I ended up weeping at the end of this day. Not crying: weeping. Right before dinnertime with my kids. I had to pull it together and pull it together fast.

Because life goes on. After a pause. A healthy pause to acknowledge the heart and what it's going through. Because I have to let things go through me now. I can't stuff it down and away anymore. I have to feel pain before it settles in me and comes out during a moment of weakness. Collecting big bagfuls of pain to store in my body and psyche does not work for me or my relationships. I come out looking like a lunatic down the road. No, I have to deal with that stuff. 

Because negativity comes out of me quickly, a few weeks later I become a snapper. Snapping at everyone I care about. Any sadness or fear turns into crazy rage or debilitating depression. All of a sudden, I'm either yelling at someone for no reason (no thank you) or so tired and hopeless that I want to give up. This is what happens when I shove my emotions away for a later time. 

No more. 

No, it's best to give pain, fear and all other types of negativity the acceptance they ask for, the compassion they seek. It's best to give these emotions their due. 

This is emotional intelligence. This is maturity. This is bravery. To stop and feel and try to move into it, accept it and then let it go. That is courage. That is true spiritual work. 

MEDITATION:

We're all in pain. We all experience fear. What makes us is how we deal with these emotions. How we handle the overwhelm, the anger, the sadness, the worry, the stress. Meditation is one of the best tools for this. To feel it is to walk through it is to let it go.
